Trena Noval, Sam Gouldthorpe, & Martha Noval

Trena Noval lives in Richmond. California and is an artist and educator whose collaborative process examines the intersections of culture and land. She is a founding member of transnational artist collective, 3rd Space Lab Collective, participatory research group Fieldworks Collaborative, and participatory urban land investigations with artist and architect Carol Mancke. Her collaborative work has been engaged and performed internationally through both public commissions, exhibitions and publications. She is the daughter of Martha Noval and mother of Sam Gouldthorpe.

Sam Gouldthorpe is a filmmaker from Richmond, California who is currently based out of Los Angeles. His life has been blessed by the powerful influence of strong women such as his mother (Trena Noval) and Grandmother (Martha Noval). From them he has learned the  importance of family, love and loyalty which has become the focus of much of his work.

Martha Noval was born in 1930 in New York and currently lives in Pennsylania, where she is sheltering in place and missing her family. She is the mother of 4 children and 3 grandchildren, and the mother of artist Trena Noval and grandmother of Filmmaker Sam Gouldthorpe. When she can, she enjoys working in clay and has filled the cupboard and cabinets of her family with beautifu handmade dinnerware and other inventive tools like cell phone holders, and more! She is looking forward to seeing her family again and feeling the warmth hugs of all she loves.
